Valiant Media is led by three senior-level creatives: Chris Howay, Troy Harrison, and Lance Barclay—each with over 20 years of delivering award-winning design solutions. These 3 hard-working, level-headed veteran design professionals create and drive every project and campaign, keeping clients coming back for more. Expand below to see brief bios:
Lance has more than 20 years of professional experience in traditional design, and over 15 years experience in interactive design. Prior to joining Valiant Media, Lance was a Creative Lead for both the Dallas and Houston offices of Viant Corporation, where he led development teams in the creation of interactive projects for Fortune 500 clients. Prior to joining Viant, he was Creative Director for the Colorado office of Agency.com, where he worked on Web, kiosk, and CD-ROM projects for some of the world’s best-known brands. Over the last few years, Lance has led print and interactive design projects for clients such as Nokia, EADS TELECOM, Compaq, Sprint, JCPenney, i2 Technologies, Sharp Electronics, Disney, Vail Resorts, and TXU. Lance has numerous industry and creative awards from the U.S. and Europe, and his work has been published in the New York Art Directors Annual and Print’s Regional Design Annual.
Lance lives in Dallas with his wife and two daughters, a dog and a cat, and several characters fashioned from found materials.
In addition to working in the trenches, Troy oversees the creative vision of all Valiant deliverables, ensuring overall design quality and completion standards are met, and client relationships and team collaborations are streamlined. Prior to joining Valiant Media, Troy was co-founder and Chief Creative Officer for Octopi, Inc. Troy has also held senior creative positions at several large agencies over the past 20 years, and has lead design solutions for such clients as Nokia, Blockbuster, DART, and Philips. He launched TH Design New Media in 1997 and began setting the precedence for virtual development teams and streamlined project production. Troy’s work has been featured in The Multi-Media Case Book, PC Publishing, Desktop Publishing, and New Media Magazine, and recently had 3 brand IDs published in Business Graphics: 500 Designs that link graphics aesthetic and business savvy by Steven Liska.
Troy lives on a ranch in East Texas with his wife and three children, along with several chickens and a milk cow.
Chris has over 22 years of professional interactive design and business operational experience. In 1989, Chris co-founded Big Hand, Inc., which became a pioneer of early interactive technologies and served clients all over the globe. There Chris wore a variety of hats including lead UI designer, animator, and art director, completing hundreds of projects and numerous consumer titles. Chris’ clients have included EDS, DART, Sprint, National Geographic, Best Buy, Cadillac, i2 Technologies, Philips Electronics, Landry’s Restaurants, and SMU. Along the way, Chris’ work has been featured and profiled as case studies in several design books and publications. Earlier in his career, Chris was named one of the “Forty Under 40″ by the Dallas Business Journal, where he got to wear his “big boy” suit and received a free dinner. While he may no longer be able to fit into that suit, Chris still has the same entrepreneurial twinkle in his eye.
Chris lives in Dallas with his wife and two daughters, two dogs and fishing pole at the ready.
Streamlined + Client-focused
Since its founding in 1997, Valiant Media has operated with a singular mission: To provide access to agency-level creative services at a well-below-agency price.
To achieve this, we apply our fresh perspective and decades of experience–and leave out unnecessary corporate fluff, costly overhead, and extra management layers. This means clients have direct access to the people doing the work, and we’re able to collaborate more efficiently and be far more productive than a large agency could ever dream. We believe it makes our work better, too.
We also don’t let egos drive the work. In other words, we never use a client project as an excuse to design cryptic navigation schemes, implement trendy technologies, or to chase after awards. Our approach is simple and level-headed: We focus on creating the best, most thoughtful solution to meet or exceed our client’s objectives.
As a result, we’ve successfully completed thousands of projects for some truly amazing clients. In fact, our clients tell us we listen and frequently shower us with compliments… so we must be doing something right. Even more validating is the fact nearly all of our business comes from word of mouth–happy clients telling others–perhaps the greatest compliment of all.
The life cycle of almost any project is developed in a traditional, phased approach. These phases expand and contract based on the scale and scope of a project. The same workflow is applied to all Valiant projects (big or small).
Every client receives a unique login to our proprietary Project Portal. So clients have 24/7 access to oversee their project development, track design concepts, view schedules, test prototypes, etc.
It’s precisely through these methods—combined with our sheer experience—that we’re able deliver clients a wide range of breakthrough solutions in the shortest possible time frame.
We could go on and on, but that’s the stuff that matters. If you want to know more about how we work, just contact us.
